Danny O’Connor scheduled to take on Puerto Rican Daniel Sostre in a non-title bout – Boxing News
Danny O’Connor, the surging young American pugilist, will enter the ring to face most probably the toughest test of his career in the form of Puerto Rican proud, Daniel Sostre, the former USA New York State welterweight champion, in a 10-round bout to be
held on May 24, 2012.
The duo will headline the Thursday night pay-per-view solely organised and promoted by Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment. The ring for the showdown will be set up at House of Blues situated in Boston, Massachusetts, United States and will also witness
Ryan Kielczewski take on Eric Aiken in a non-title eight-round bout hence constituting the co-main event.
Danny, 27, has been in a total 17 bouts and boasts 16 wins. The American lad has nailed just four opponents by knockout and is not that much of a heavy-duty pounder. Despite the fact that both men have been in same number of bouts, Danny is the one who possesses
an upper hand over his Puerto Rican opponent.
Connor, a southpaw stance brawler, is on a two-bout win streak since his last unanimous decision loss to undefeated Gabriel Bracero. In addition, he has easily collected wins over men with hefty experiences such as Humberto Tapia, Jose Angel Roman and others.
His Thursday night opponent, Daniel, on the contrary, possesses a tarnished resume. Sostre, 28, has also been in a total 17 bouts and emerged victorious in only 11. He also has, just like Danny, collected four wins by knockout but at the same time exhibits
five losses as well.
It is this loss scenario that has altogether shifted the odds in favour of Danny. Also known as ‘The Hudson Valley Kid’, Daniel is currently on a two-bout lose streak. Daniel has won just two of his last five bouts and is in dire need to make a comeback.
It is this reason why in a recent media interaction, Danny commented that he is not underestimating Daniel since he is filled with rage and is highly motivated to return to the win track.
Danny who has undergone a strenuous training and sparring session under the supervision of Ronnie Shields, stated, “I’m a student of the game. With my coach Ronnie Shields, I watch as many of Sostre’s films as possible. I know a lot about him. I think he’s
a tough fighter.”
Shields, Danny’s coach, also shared his thoughts and revealed some of his tactics and strategies that he and Danny had been working on. Ronnie commented, “I’m showing Danny how to catch, how to slip, how to counter. When you see him next, you’re going to
see a huge difference.”
The bout will be a toe-to-toe one since Daniel is coming full throttle with just one thing in mind, a win. On the other hand, Connor needs to make a statement that he can beat a former USA New York State welterweight champion.
