Danny Paul extends his stay at Premiership dropout Leeds Carnegie – Rugby news
Aviva Premiership ship relegate, Leeds Carnegie, has extended the contract of their number eight Danny Paul by a year. The club confirmed the extension of their number eight’s contract on their official website on Monday, June 13.
The statement released on the website read, “Leeds Carnegie number eight Danny Paul has agreed a new one year contract with the club.” Paul has expressed his satisfaction on being able to extend his stay at Leeds Carnegie. Paul commented that, “I had my
operation at the start of May and things are going well so far. I am still on the crutches so that I am not putting too much weight on my hip but hopefully I can be back for the start of the season.”
The 24-year-old Paul is currently recovering from a hip injury that he sustained earlier in May. Later his hip was operated on and he is following a recovery plan and expects to be fit before the start of next season’s campaign.
Leeds Carnegie were relegated from the Premiership at the end of 2010/11 season. Leeds will now compete in the Rugby Football Union’s (RFU) Championship or National Division One in order to return to the top level Aviva Premiership.
Kippax, Leeds born Paul made his debut for Leeds Carnegie in 2004 against the Spanish side Valladolid from the Leeds Carnegie’s A team. In 2007, the Leeds Carnegie handed over Paul his first senior professional rugby contract.
Paul has made 82 appearances for Leeds Carnegie so far in different domestic and European competitions including the Amlin Challenge Cup and Heineken Cup. He has scored 45 points for Leeds, with all points coming from tries.
Paul will work under head coach Diccon Edwards and recently appointed Leeds Carnegie captain Andy Titterrell. Paul has expressed hopes that the changes in the squad and coaching staff will help the club in their efforts to return to the Premiership. He said,
“Despite relegation last season, the belief within the squad is really high. I am looking forward to working with Diccon Edwards again. He is someone who is very passionate and enthusiastic about the club and that will be important.”
Paul further added the Titterrell is a respected figure in the club and one that motivates the players around him to deliver their best. He further expressed hope that the relatively younger Leeds Carnegie staff will deliver exceptional performances on a
consistent basis.
Besides Andy Titterrell, other international capped players signed by the Leeds Carnegie for their next season campaign include Australian international Lachlan Mackay, USA Eagles international Mike MacDonald , English international Michael Stephenson, and
Welsh international Rhys Oakley.
