Danny Willett grasps his first European Tour victory, Cologne was not easy, says Willett!
Danny Willett has finally won his first European Tour win at the BMW International Open, this Sunday, at Cologne. It has been a tough journey but the English golfer has fulfilled his dream on the fields of Europe.
The BMW International Open was indeed an event that brought out the best in golf. It was a star studded event, with many names who failed to outshine at the tournament.
Willett played exceptionally well, keeping in mind the weather conditions. Cologne was windy and wet throughout the final round and became a tough course in the final hours.
“It's amazing, it was a tough day -- it was brutal with the wind whipping and it was raining,” said Willett after his first European win at Cologne.
His opponent, Marcus Fraser had a wonderful day and it was thought that the Australian will win the tournament. It was when Willett hit a fantastic shot on the 18th hole that got him the edge over his rival.
“Marcus had a great round today and I hung in there nicely. Hopefully I gave people a good show,” said Willett.
On the other hand, Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia finished the International Open with a bad score and it was evident that Garcia has been taking things too easy. It was a few weeks ago, when the Spanish was heard saying that a major win is not something he
cares about.
"If I don't have a major, what can I do, I'm not going to take my life because I don't win a major. Fortunately I have a lot of other things that maybe some of those guys who have won majors don't have,” said the Spanish golfer.
This statement caused plenty of trouble for the Spanish golfer and he has been criticised by the media across the globe for his attitude regarding him and his major championship record.
The BMW International Open has been a blessing for Willett and his march towards a great future as a golfer.
It is compulsory that Willett keeps his consistency and does not let go of his form. If he keeps the pace, his rank might rocket up in no time, congratulations Danny Willett!
