Danny Wilson believes Northampton should not be taken lightly

It is day 2 of Carling Cup midweek action and Liverpool will be in action against League Two side Northampton. The reds defender Danny Wilson believes that regardless of the gap between the two teams’ standings, Liverpool should
not take their opponents for granted. There are no less than 68 league places between the 2 teams. Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson, is expected to field a team predominantly comprising of reserve players.  Danny Wilson is also one of the fringe players expected
to play in the match. He said that complacency can cost Liverpool.
The former Rangers player who was signed by the Reds this summer is expected to make his debut for the club on Wednesday. He said that he is determined to prove his worth and help his team come on up against an un-fancied opponent.
Wilson said that his team has the ability to go all the way in the tournament.
"It would be fantastic to get to Wembley," said the 18-year-old.
"We have just got to take it one step at a time. There are no easy ties as cup football is a one-off.
"Sometimes it's tough playing against a team from a lower league because this is their cup final and they are out to impress, and you know they will put everything into the game.
"We won't take our foot off the gas as we know complacency can sometimes kick in."
Northampton earned a spot against Liverpool by beating npower Championship team Reading in a penalty shootout. Wilson said their previous performance means that they should not be taken lightly and are capable of springing a surprise
or two.
"That shows you they have got great character in the team to keep going right to the end and we'll have to guard against that," he added.
"For any player Anfield is a massive stage to play at no matter whether you play a League Two side or one from the Champions League.
"They will be up for it and we have to make sure we play well and win the game."
England Under-19 captain Jonjo Shelvey will be another man keen to make a name for himself in the game. Jonjo is also expected to make his first team debut in the Carling Cup match on Wednesday.
Wilson said that he played alongside Jonjo in the reserves game and was impressed by what he saw, he believes that the manager’s plan to focus on long term plans and breed the youngsters will help players like Jonjo.
"Jonjo was excellent when I played alongside him for the reserves last week and if he's given a chance I think he is well worth it because he had a great game," said Wilson, a £2million signing from Rangers in the summer.
"Jonjo is a quality young player and if he is given a chance then I'm sure he wouldn't let anyone down.
"He signed at the same time as me and we get on really well. We have got some good lads here and I get on really well with them."
Liverpool has not had the best of starts in the English Premier League, and has not won any silverware in last 4 seasons. In their 5 games so far Reds have only managed 5 points, they have managed just one win so far that was 1-0
against West Brom and suffered 2 losses against Manchester United and Manchester City. Last season they ended at a disappointing 7th position that ruled them out of the UEFA Champions’ League this season.  Team manager Roy Hodgson has said that
Carling Cup and FA Cup may be the more likely opportunities for his club to win trophies.
Some of other big names from the Premier League will also be in action tonight; Manchester United and Chelsea will also take the field, while Arsenal already registered a win on Tuesday night beating Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 in extra
time.
