The defending Russian Premier League champions, Zenit St. Petersburg, have been drawn in the UEFA Europa League’s round-of-32 against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 FC, who have won this European competition twice more times as compared to the St.
Petersburg club in the past.
The first-leg of the European encounter is scheduled on 14th February at Petrovsky stadium prior to the return leg which will be played at Anfield, a place known for it’s fantastic support all across the world.
Zenit secured an automatic qualification into the cup competition by securing 3rd spot on their respective UEFA Champions League’s group stage table while the Reds progressed from the group stages after topping their respective
group in the Europa League.
Though Danny Miguel is well aware of the rich history of the English Premier League club, who are the only English side to lift the Champions League’s trophy record five times, the Portuguese midfielder has backed the Russian outfit
to give their all in the European clash.
The 29-year-old was of the belief that Zenit have a chance to progress to the next round should they manage to get a good result at home. However, he admitted that it will be a difficult task to keep the opposition at bay with
so many experienced players.
“Zenit have gone through many draws in the last couple of years and I think Champions League and Europa League are very good tournament. But we have to reunite if we want to prove that we are a strong team too. Hopefully, in the
first game against Liverpool, we will fight for the victory together.” The UEFA Super Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The fact that he has been suspended for next three games including the much anticipated match against Rubin Kazan after insulting match official during Zenit’s 1-1 draw against Anzhi Makhachkala at home makes Danny sad, who assured
the fans of coming back stronger.
The former Sporting Lisbon man picked up a straight red card after making an aggressive argument with Maxim Layushkin.
