Dany Bahar confident to end naming dispute with Tony Fernandes
The CEO of Group Lotus Dany Bahar was confident that the dispute with Team Lotus over the name will be settled before the case is taken into the British courts. However, Bahar didn’t rule out the possibility of taking the dispute to the court if the problem
is not sorted out soon.
There has been a row between the British sports-car manufacturers with the Formula 1 team and both the parties have not reached any settlement until now.
Dany Bahar stated, “I don't think it will be a matter solved by English courts, I think it will be solved before that. But if we have to go the legal way, we will - and our shareholders will support that.”
Bahar further stated that there were no plans to end the relationship with the boss of Team lotus Tony Fernandes. He claimed, “When I arrived with a new management team, we had our own ideas and plans and that's nobody's fault, not the shareholders' and
not Mr Fernandes' fault. We have a crystal clear vision of where we want to go in future.”
Commenting on the relationship with Team Lotus, Bahar said that every business relationship starts in a positive manner and both the parties look to benefit from the relationship.
He further stated that if the relationship isn’t beneficial for both the parties, it comes to an end. The chairman of Group Lotus said that the business relation is like a marriage and their relation with Fernandes was an unsuccessful one.
Team Lotus returned to Formula 1 last season with high hopes and was the best team amongst all the new teams. Although the team didn’t score any points in the season, the initial battle amongst the newcomers was won by them.
Team Lotus has retained its drivers Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen who represented the team in the 2010 season and are confident to be amongst the mid-field runners in the 2011 season.
The pre-season testing will start next month and all the teams are preparing for it. Team Lotus will be using the Renault engines for the 2011 season and will be hoping to perform better than the 2010 season, when they used the Cosworth engines.
