Dara Torres's Attitude and Behavior?

Why can't other athletes act with the class she does. I never hear her complaining about not winning gold like the American gymnast. I never hear her hogging all the fame during relay races. Why can't more athletes be as responsible as her, and does it have something to do with the age gap.

Can you link to where the American gymnasts complained about not winning gold, I have been watching the Olympics almost non stop and must have missed this.  I'm claiming bull unless you can prove this.

A better example would be the guy who threw his medal down and walked out, but whatever.

I think the entire American team is acting great during this Olympics.  Such a relief, I am always worried about the way they will behave, so far, so good.

Yes she's a class act all the way.

Her age - she is a mature woman that is for sure.  And still competing.  I say TORRES in 2012 yea!!

I don't think I've heard the American gymnasts complaining?  I've heard a lot of their FANS complaining -

The coaches didn't complain either, it was fans who were outraged and pissed, they did not complain.,

You didn't see cheating in swimming, thus no outrage.

Generally, when you cheat, there is outrage, not complaining.  Don't confuse the two.

It probably does have to do with the age gap. She has learned that complaining will not change what she got. And she realizes she is lucky she got what she got. And she probably knows that in relay's the team helps each other,she doesn't do all the work.

I agree, she has a lot of class, but I've been watching quite a bit of the Olympics and I haven't heard any whining from other Olympiads. There was talk about the uneven scoring in the women's gymnastics and I agree that the US women got the short end on a few events....for example, several of the Chinese gymnasts made glaring errors yet got higher scores then an American. I don't think that pointing that out is complaining, it must be terribly frustrating to work so hard for so many years and get screwed by poor judging.

I don't think age has anything to do with it...I think we can be proud of all of our Olympiads.

Well, on the one hand, she is 41, not 16 ... so she has a lot of history and perspective!  I'm sure she's thrilled just to be there and even be competing for medals!

I haven't actually heard the American gymnasts complaining about not wining Gold.  Overall, I think the Americans have handled themselves with grace.  Perhaps not restraint, mind you ... but the Americans are not known for restraint!

I do agree with you 1000% ... Dara Torres is a true class act.  And such an inspiration, too ... and what a role-model and "mom" she must be to all those young swimmers!  I bet her presence on the team has calmed the nerves of more than a few of those kids!
