Daren Liew confident to deliver well at the 2011 Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Men’s Singles elite shuttler, Daren Liew is confident to deliver well at the 2011 Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold, which starts from today in Indonesia.
Daren has been playing wonderful badminton for the last few months, as he has shown considerable improvement by performing well at international events. He is currently ranked at Number 42 in the Men’s Singles world rankings, and is looking forward to improve
it further in the current event of Indonesia Open.
As he has contested in too many international events, the Malaysian has not been selected by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to participate in the Japan Open Super Series, which ended on Sunday, September 25, in Japan. Meanwhile, Daren has been
working hard in training sessions to keep himself fit and now, he is ready to shine in Indonesia which will help him to earn better ranking points.
The Malaysian said, “I’m not really disappointed about not going to Japan because I have been competing in a lot of tournaments lately. That deprived me of the opportunity to train and I’m actually glad I didn’t go because I finally got the last week to
catch up on some training.”
In the Men’s Singles first round, Daren is set to play against Indonesia’s Simon Santoso, who is the World Number 16 at the moment. He knows that playing against Santoso will not be an easy task as the Indonesian is one of the top shuttlers in the country.
If Daren manages to cross the first hurdle, he is expected to face team-mate, Misbun Ramdan Misbun in the second round.
Daren said, “It will not be easy because Simon is a good player and I’m just hoping to focus during the match and aim for an upset. If I can do that, I may actually have a good chance to reach the quarter-finals.”
The Malaysian is determined to play well in the event as it is the right time to secure maximum possible ranking points which will be a good boost to his confidence. Gaining more points will also keep his chances alive to reach in the top-25 shuttlers by
the end of the current year.
