Daren Liew determined to live up to expectations in Thomas Cup Qualifying Round
Malaysia’s talented second stringer, Daren Liew, is determined to live up to the expectations by delivering his hundred percent in the upcoming Thomas Cup Qualifying Round, which will start on February 13, in Macau.
The Malaysian team will compete against the shuttlers from Hong Kong and South Korea at the group stages. It will be a challenging task for them to finish at the top in their group.
Lee Chong Wei, who is World Number One at the moment, is the only player who is expected to earn the first point in the match by winning his Men’s Singles battle.
Nevertheless, besides Chong Wei, all other shuttlers are not assured of winning the remaining two points as none of them is in his prime form.
However, the World Number 45 Daren has got experience of playing in team-event matches in Asian Games 2012 and SEA Games 2011.
The young shuttler knows how to handle pressure as he has got elevated skills and is ready to shine in the qualifying round of Thomas Cup Finals, which is the most important team-event tournament in the arena of badminton.
While talking about his previous performances, Daren said that he has never been impressive but has got experience, which will help him to perform well this time.
Daren is also confident that this time he will not repeat his previous mistakes in this prestigious team-event championship.
He said, “Although I didn’t perform to expectations in previous events, the experience I gained was priceless, especially in Indonesia last year where the home fans were really intimidating. I’ve learned from my past mistakes and am better prepared to cope
with such pressure now. I certainly hope to contribute points for the team.”
While talking about his expected encounter against Hong Kong shuttlers, Daren said that he has not a good record against them but is confident to prove his worth this time.
He said, “I may not have a good record against Hong Kong’s third singles Chan Yan Kit, but, having lost twice to him previously, I know his game and feel that I can beat him.”
In the qualifying round of Thomas Cup Finals, Daren will play the third Men’s Singles fight, which holds paramount importance as it decides the winner of the contest.
