Daren Liew silences his critics by shining in All England Open – Badminton news
The Malaysian singles shuttler Daren Liew silenced his critics as he shined in his initial matches of the All England Open.
The World Number 43 Daren Liew was always criticised for not being mentally and physically tough and he had the repute of a player who cannot hold the pressure of big events.
But his latest attitude and fortitude have earned a great deal of admiration for him and the  determined Daren wiped out all the stains with his phenomenal performance, earlier in qualifiers and then in first round of the event.
The Malaysian started his expedition from qualifying round and he overpowered his rivals Derek Wong of Singapore and Hsueh Hsuan Yi of Taiwan to march into the main draw.
Daren Liew had all the reasons to smile and he was absolutely contented on his latest performance.
He said, “I used to give up easily but this time, I hung on. My body was tired and I could feel my leg cramp towards the end, but I kept on fighting. I was so determined to win in my first All-England and I pulled it off.”
Daren Liew extended his good run in the main round also and he dazzled the Thai shuttler Boonsak Ponsana with his flashy performance. He was playing with a cut on his finger and a bruised knee but he never surrendered even when he was bleeding chips.
He said, “The win against Boonsak is special. In the second game, I was leading 19-18 and he caught up. Once again, I hung on and did not cave in.”
Daren is determined to continue his fine form and regardless of the results, he is just focused to exhibit his prime badminton skills in the event.
The Malaysian said, “We have been given the chance to play in the All England, so win or lose we must fight and that is what I aim to do.”
He is now scheduled to meet the British shuttler Rajiv Ouseph in the pre quarter-finals of the All England open and it is not going to be an easy task as Rajiv has thrashed World Number four Peter Hoeg Gade in his opening encounter.
