Daren Liew trounces Hans Kristian Vittinghus in group stage – BWF Superseries Finals Update
Men’s Singles shutter Daren Liew of Malaysia performed exceptionally well in his last group match of BWF Superseries Finals and thrashed Hans Kristian Vittinghus on December 14, 2012.
This exhausting 52-minute match was played at the local badminton complex of Shenzhen, China and both contenders entertained the audience while registering concluding figures of 17-21, 21-13 and 21-14.
The lower ranked but spirited Malaysian campaigner locked the honour by prevailing in ending two segments of this showdown.
On the other hand, the Hans Kristian Vittinghus could show his brilliance just in the opening game.
He played with great precision in first set and bagged this vital match point with distinction. He made his intentions clear by piling up a respectable total of seven in no time and then strengthened his grip with an indomitable figure before the interval.
The Danish player was everywhere on the court as he did not give his rival even a single chance to come back and placed an impressive margin of 11.
After the one-minute break, he prevailed in few uninterrupted rallies and widened the gap on points table. This significant advantage proved the decisive factor as Hans Vittinghus won first set with 21-17 score.
Unexpectedly, he failed to carry this momentum in the following game and knelt down tamely. He took off in perfect manner but then few back-to-back mistakes brought him down.
On the other hand, World Number 15 Daren Liew showed commendable fighting spirit and tipped the scale in his favour.
He started the beating after 5-9 and added five consecutive points in his total. This powerful campaign took him to a commanding position before the half time.
After the interval, the young Daren displayed maturity in his craft and confounded Hans Vittinghus with a staggering knock of 21-13.
The decider was expected to be a nerve-racking contest but it proved a one-sided affair. The Malaysian shuttler was bit sluggish in the beginning but then few productive rallies provided him the required momentum and he cruised to victory.
Daren Liew sealed a splendid win by registering an overwhelming margin of 21-14. However, this win could not protect him from an early exit from this prestigious tournament.
