Daria Mironova breezes past Tjasa Srimpf to enter round two – Antalya ITF 2012
Russian starlet, Daria Mironova, got the better of the Slovenian challenger, Tjasa Srimpf, with a bagel at the Antalya ITF 2012 on Tuesday. She notched up a 6-0, 6-1 victory against the Slovene to power into the round of 16 at this outdoor clay court tournament
taking place in Antalya, Turkey.
Seeded eighth in this event, Mironova winded up the opening nine games and eventually carved out the victory in almost 45 minutes. After earning the glory, the Russian comfortably booked a spot in the pre-quarters at this ITF (International Tennis Federation)
Women’s Circuit event.
Mironova stormed into the Go Tennis Academy. She unveiled her true colours after entering the Turkish clay courts. The Russian reeled off six games in a row and subsequently pulled out the opener with a bagel. She brushed off the only breakpoint she came
across and marked all three break chances to inch towards her goal.
Ranked 451st in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Mironova maintained her intensity in the proceeding set. She drew the first blood in the second game and leaped to a 3-0 lead. After Srimpf came on the score sheet for the
first time, the Russian stroke out the last three games and clinched the set with a breadstick. She held her entire serves with conviction and converted two out of five break chances to her advantage.
The 19-year-old made her highlight of the season at the Almaty ITF where she secured a quarter-final berth. However, she has not reached far in other ITF events.
Mironova will next face the winner of the match between Croatia’s Tena Lukas and the Portuguese qualifier, Margarida Moura, in the pre-quarters.
The local challenger, Hulya Esen, will join Mironova in the following round. She triumphed over Moldovan wild card entrant, Anastasia Vdovenco, in straight sets to progress at this event. Esen lost her serve twice but broke her opponent’s serve five times,
eventually sealing the deal with a 7-5, 6-2 score line. The Turk needed almost one hour and 15 minutes to steal the show in their first encounter.
She will next face the French contender, Irina Ramialison, in the pre-quarters.
