Darian Townsend and Jason Dunford excel in swimming events: Day one – 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1
Darian R Townsend of West and Jason E Dunford of East excelled in their swimming events on opening day of the 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1 on Wednesday, November 16 at the University of Michigan Pool.
The session concluded after the completion of 200m Individual Medley (IM), 50m butterfly, 200m freestyle and 100m back-stroke in Men’s category.
At first, the 27-year-old Townsend proved his mettle in the initial event of the session, the 200m IM. He demonstrated his exhausting efforts in the final of the four-lap IM discipline and pocketed the title in a phenomenal time of 2 minutes and 01.29 seconds.
With his outstanding effort, he remained almost one second faster than his following competitor, Peng Wu of East, who stepped on the medal rostrum for second position with an effort of 2 minutes and 02.11 seconds.
Subsequently, Wu devastated hopes of his team-mate, Nick J Brunelli by keeping him at a considerable distance. Brunelli was 6.35 seconds behind his former swimmer but secured the podium for bronze medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 08.46 seconds.
Next was the 50m butterfly, where Dunford was the first swimmer to approach the finishing end. He earned gold medal of butterfly swim by hitting the wall with an effort of 23.96 seconds. The 24-year-old Dunford edged out his following swimmer, Christopher
D Brady of West with a difference of 0.52 seconds.
Brady tapped the wall with a second best timing of 24.48 seconds. He remained 0.20 seconds ahead of his subsequent competitor, Bobby T Savulich, who reached the medal rostrum by reporting time of 24.68 seconds for third position.
In the meantime, Townsend once again appeared on the starting blocks for the title of 200m freestyle. With his noteworthy efforts, he remained 0.01 seconds ahead of his strongest competitor and team-member, Charles G Houchin and submitted a time 1 minute
and 50.14 seconds for gold medal.
The second spot of the race was secured by Houchin, who ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 50.15 seconds for silver medal. He was trailed by Jean Basson of East, who occupied third fastest spot with an effort of 1 minute and 50.84 seconds.
The last event of the session was 100m back-stroke, where Eugene Godsoe of East produced an effort of 54.64 seconds for gold medal. He remained 0.11 seconds ahead of his following swimmer, Brady, who tapped the wall with a timing of 56.75 seconds for silver
medal.
Meanwhile, Kevin D Doak of West remained 1.27 seconds behind his preceding swimmer and touched the wall in a time of 58.02 seconds for third position.
The session ended after completion of all swimming events while the winners were awarded medals for their immaculate efforts.
