Darian Townsend captures Men’s 200m IM title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Darian Townsend of South Africa captured gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Sunday, October 21.
The South African swimmer demonstrated his gruelling efforts in the eight-lap IM discipline and made his way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
He showed no leniency to his opponents in the 200m discipline and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal. With his impeccable efforts, Townsend remained just a touch ahead of his closest competitor and touched the wall for gold medal with a timing
of 1 minute and 53.44 seconds.
The champion was followed by Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, who stayed only 0.15 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as second position holder with an effort of 1 minute and 53.59 seconds.
Cseh was chased by Daiya Seto of Japan, who was 0.25 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as third best finisher by producing a time of 1 minute 53.84 seconds.
Fourth spot of the race was obtained by Kenneth To of Australia, who was 2.11 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 55.95 seconds.
To was chased by David Verraszto of Hungary, who stayed more than three body lengths behind and ended his race in fifth place by producing a time of 1 minute and 59.35 seconds.
Sixth spot of the event was obtained by Diogo Yabe of Brazil, who was 0.18 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end with a timing of 1 minute and 59.53 seconds.
Subsequently, Yabe was followed by Lucas Salatta of Brazil, who remained one and a half body length slower from his former finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 01.06 seconds for seventh position.
Eight spot of the event was obtained by Raphael Stacchiotti, who was significantly slower from his foregoing finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 05.35 seconds.
In addition, Townsend expressed happiness over his victory in the eight-lap event and collected medal for his notable form after the event.
