Darian Townsend captures Men’s 200m IM title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Darian Townsend of South Africa captured gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the final stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Sunday, November 11.
Townsend demonstrated his gruelling efforts in the IM discipline and went full rampant towards the finishing wall for gold medal. With his epic start and powerful strokes, Townsend faced no trouble in securing the title.
He enjoyed a lead of more than half body length over his toughest competitor as he clocked an effort of 1 minute and 54.16 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Yuki Shirai of Japan, who was 0.79 seconds behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 54.95 seconds.
The Japanese star was traced by Justin James of Australia, who stayed 3.19 seconds apart and occupied third position of the discipline by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 58.14 seconds.
Fourth spot of the race was obtained by Mitchell Donaldson of New Zealand, who stayed 0.60 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end with a timing of 1 minute and 58.74 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Lennard Bremer of Australia, who was 1.10 seconds apart and finished his race in a time of 1 minute and 59.84 seconds.
Subsequently, Bremer was traced by Ieuan Lloyd of Great Britain, who stayed almost two body lengths slower from his preceding swimmer and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 01.66 seconds for sixth position.
Lloyd was chased by Ching Hwang Lim, who was one and a half body length slower and surfaced on the finishing end as seventh best finisher by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 03.11 seconds.
Eighth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Dylan Dunlop-Barrett of New Zealand, who was 0.53 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 03.64 seconds.
In addition, Townsend was overjoyed with his top finish in the race and addressed his fans by saying that he would try his level best to achieve the same in upcoming events.
