Darian Townsend captures Men’s 400m IM title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Darian Townsend of South Africa captured gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on first day of the last stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Saturday, November 10.
The South African swimmer showed no mercy to his opponents in the distant IM discipline and made his way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
With his impeccable efforts, Townsend remained half a body length ahead of his strongest opponent and surfaced on the finishing wall for the crown with a timing of 4 minutes and 09.24 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Travis Mahoney of Australia, who was 0.51 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 09.75 seconds.
Mahoney was chased by Mitchell Donaldson of New Zealand, who was almost six seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as third position holder by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 15.98 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Shane Asbury of Australia, who stayed 0.10 seconds slower and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 16.08 seconds.
Asbury was chased by Sheng Jun Pang of Singapore, who stayed 1.80 seconds slower form his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 17.88 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Dylan Dunlop-Barrett of New Zealand, who was two body lengths slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 19.84 seconds.
Subsequently, Dunlop remained in a substantial lead over his following swimmer, Bryan Tjut, who managed to secure seventh position of the event by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 45.33 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Yao Jie Oh of Singapore, who was nearly eight seconds slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 53.26 seconds.
In addition, Townsend expressed contentment over his victory in the race and said that he would continue his hard work to meet expectations of his supporters in future.
