Darian Townsend clinches Men's 200m IM title: Day one – 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1
Darian R Townsend demonstrated his ruthless efforts in the final of Men's 200m Individual Medley (IM), on first day of the 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1, on Wednesday, November 16. The meet is a two day competition and is organised at the University of Michigan Pool.
The 27-year-old Townsend participated from the side of West team and outperformed his competitors in 200m discipline. He was the first swimmer to jump off the starting blocks and completed his lap in a fastest time of 25.67 seconds. He was followed by Peng
Wu of East, who remained nearly half a second behind him and ended his lap in a time of 26.22 seconds.
Townsend displayed his smothering efforts in the second lap and completed his first half of the event in a time of 56.27 seconds. His fastest back-stroke legs placed him considerably ahead of his strongest competitor, Wu, who covered his initial half in
a time of 58.36 seconds.
In the next lap, Townsend continued his noteworthy efforts and completed his breast-stroke swim in a time of 1 minute and 32.60 seconds. He remained 1.43 seconds ahead of his opponent, who ended his breast-stroke swim in a time of 1 minute and 34.03 seconds
In the final lap, West's athlete sprinted his way towards the finishing wall by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 01.29 seconds for gold medal. He was nearly one second ahead of Wu, who settled on the podium for silver medal with a timing of 2 minutes and
02.11 seconds.
With his wonderful effort, Wu remained prominently ahead of his team-member, Nick J Brunelli, who secured the victory stand for bronze medal by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 08.46 seconds. He was trailed by George R Bovell of West, who ended fourth
with a timing of 2 minutes and 14.58 seconds.
The arena went wild with the heart-winning efforts of all participants, who tried to escape each other on the finishing end for gold medal. Furthermore, the podium finishers were called upon the medal rostrum for their scintillating efforts after the completion
of session.
