Darian Townsend conquers Men’s 200m freestyle gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Darian Townsend of South Africa conquered gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, October 3.
The South African swimmer served notice of his talent in the eight-lap discipline and overpowered his closest swimmer for the title.
With his stupendous efforts in the 200m discipline, Townsend stayed nearly 0.60 seconds ahead of his toughest challenger and emerged on the finishing end for gold medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 42.71 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Robert Hurley of Australia, who stayed more than half a body length behind and occupied silver medal of the event with a timing of 1 minute and 43.37 seconds.
Hurley was followed by Tommaso D’Orsogna of Australia, who stayed 1.28 seconds apart and finished third in the race by reporting a time of 1 minute and 44.65 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Daiya Seto of Japan, who failed to reach the podium. Seto remained only 0.04 seconds slower from his former finisher and surfaced on the wall for fourth position by posting a time of 1 minute and 44.69 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the event was obtained by Kyle Richardson of Australia, who remained 0.25 seconds behind and settled on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 44.94 seconds.
Richardson was followed by Kenneth To of Australia, who stayed 0.42 seconds apart and occupied sixth spot of the race by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 45.36 seconds.
Seventh spot of the event was obtained by Michael Jack of New Zealand, who remained almost four seconds behind and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 49.17 seconds.
Jack was trailed by David Brandl of Austria, who stayed two and a half body lengths apart and concluded his race in eighth place by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 51.75 seconds.
In addition, Townsend was extremely pleased with his gold claiming effort and collected medals and accolades at the victory ceremony after the event.
