Darian Townsend seizes Men’s 200m freestyle gold – 2012 Southwest Classic Invitational, Arizona
Darian Townsend of Ford Aquatics-AZ seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle at the 2012 Southwest Classic Invitational in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, May 5.
The 27-year-old Townsend upset his competitors with his exhausting efforts in the 200m discipline. He faced no trouble in overpowering his challengers for the crown of the event and sprinted his way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
Townsend stifled hopes of his challengers by occupying gold medal of the event in a tmie of 1 minute and 51.38 seconds.
His title-claiming effort remained almost two body lengths faster from his subsequent rival, Alex P Wold of Santa Clara-PC who stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 54.71 seconds.
Wold was followed by Blake Worsley of Canada, who remained nearly one body length behind and cruised his way towards the finishing blockade for bronze medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 55.63 seconds.
Similarly, Worsley remained marginally ahead of his closest challenger, Adam J Ritter of Ford Aquatics-AZ, who settled on the finishing blockade as fourth best finisher by clocking a time of 1 minute and 55.79 seconds.
Fifth position of the 200m event was obtained by Russ R Payne of Santa Clara-PC, who stayed nearly two body lengths apart and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 57.86 seconds.
The 25-year-old Payne was followed by Worsley’s teammate, Tobias Oriwol, who stayed half body length away from his former finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 58.52 seconds.
Oriwol enjoyed an advantage of 2.27 seconds over Matt D Barber of Arizona-AZ, who secured seventh position of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 00.79 seconds.
Barber was chased by his team-member, Pete K Stacy, who secured eighth position of the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.84 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the 200m event while the position holders were called upon the victory stand for medals and accolades at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
