Darian Townsend stuns in Men’s 200m IM heats: Day three – Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Darian Townsend of Tucson Ford Deal stunned the aquatic crowd by dominating the qualifying rounds of Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on third day of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Sunday, June 10.
The 27-year-old Townsend continued his scintillating form on last day of the championship as he went one-step closer to capture another gold medal of the championship.
He displayed his tremendous skills in the 200m IM event and sprinted his way towards the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 04.97 seconds for first position.
His gruelling effort remained 1.53 seconds faster from Young Tae Seo of Swim Pasadena-CA, who entered the playoff as strong contender for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 06.50 seconds.
Seo was trailed by Joe Rodgers of Oakland University, who remained 0.71 seconds slower from upsetting his former finisher and clocked a timing of 2 minutes and 07.21 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Connor Nolan of University of Missouri, who stayed full body length behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 08.55 seconds.
Similarly, Nolan was chased by Michael Weiss of Wisconsin Aquatics, who stayed only 0.05 seconds apart and hit the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.60 seconds for fifth position.
Weiss enjoyed an advantage of 0.41 seconds over Jacob Molacek of Greater Omaha Aquatics, who proved his eligibility for sixth position of the discipline by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 09.01 seconds.
The 16-year-old Molacek remained 0.43 seconds faster from Andrew Jovanovic of NASA Wildcat Aquatics, who completed his swim in seventh best place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 09.44 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the event was secured by Jordan Turner of Wyoming Aquatics, who remained only 0.18 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall for eighth position with the timing of 2 minutes and 09.62 seconds.
The crowd acknowledged forceful efforts of all participants in the 200m discipline while these qualifying swimmers will try to prove their mettle for gold spot in the final round.
