Shakhtar Donetsk have had a good Ukrainian Premier League campaign, having lost only once, yet they still trail the league leaders by a single point.
The Miners defender, Darijo Srna, has bemoaned the luck factor during the ongoing season and urged his teammates to gear up when the league resumes in March, 2012.
Shakhtar managed to win the last League tie before the winter break against FC Kryvbas Kryvyi. Srna revealed that Shakhtar need to find consistency in their results and tipped them to continue the good momentum.
Meanwhile, if Shakhtar manage to win the league title this year, it will be their third title in a row.
Srna, who joined the Ukrainian outfit in 2006 and went on to win the UEFA Cup, expressed his delight upon finishing the first league round with a good away win but warned the Ukrainian outfit against complacency.
The former Hajduk Split player is of the opinion that the Moles have all the attributes to retain the league title under the leadership of Mircea Lucescu.
“Last year has been superb for us. Firstly we celebrated the history-making event upon reaching the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals for the first time. Afterwards, we lifted the domestic Cup and became the Ukrainian Premier
League title holders.” Srna said.
Speaking on their shock European exit, the Croatian Cup winner admitted that Shakhtar need to raise their offensive ranks in the upcoming winter transfer window. The Moles managed to score 4 goals in 6 group stage encounters.
Meanwhile, Shakhtar failed to qualify for UEFA Europa League this season after claiming bottom spot on the group table.
Srna promised the fans of a better European campaign next year and told them that they still have a chance to win the domestic league and the Ukrainian Cup.
“I think the Lady Luck has turned its back upon us, at least in the European competitions. But we have learned a lesson from that disappointing event. I assure you the domestic cup and league title again this year.” Srna promised.
