Darin Ruf earns a call from Philadelphia Phillies – MLB Update
A tremendous success in Double-A Reading helps the first baseman Darin Ruf to earn a call from the Philadelphia Phillies.
Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel likes to see Ruf playing a few games in the season so that it becomes easier for him to find his role in the team for the future.
Manuel has given clear indications that if he can replicate those performances that he put up in Double-A Reading, he certainly will compel the team officials to start thinking about his long-term presence in the team.
So far in the season the Phillies have not been able to live up to the expectations that can be made about a club which has won the Division Championship for the last five years. The dismal performance in the season has led experts discussing their farm
system and the prospects that can lift them for years to come.
In this context, Ruf has emerged as a player from their Minor League system who can become a formidable offensive force for the opponents. The home-run champion award that he achieved in the Minor League this season can easily make experts believe that he
is going to become another Ryan Howard for Philadelphia.
Manuel is excited to witness Ruf connecting hits at the plate.
"I'm looking forward to seeing him play and seeing him hit," Manuel said.
Ruf is ecstatic on being called up by the Phillies. He will be playing soon after going through batting practices. Manuel is of the view that he will observe him closely in the next few weeks before he starts giving him opportunities on a regular basis.
"I wish I could describe it," Ruf said. "I was kind of in the zone. It's a little weird when you don't hit a home run and people are like, 'What was that? You didn't have a good at-bat.' I definitely soaked it in and had a lot of fun with it. I know my teammates
had a lot of fun with it."
As Ruf makes the transition from the Minor League to the Majors, it will be interesting to see how long he takes to adjust.
