Darina Zhurba confounds Svetlana Korotisheva in Women’s Singles event – Russia Open Update
Women’s Singles shuttler Darina Zhurba trounced her compatriot Svetlana Korotisheva and trod into second round of Russia Open Grand Prix tournament on June 27, 2012.
This opening round match remained in full swing for 37 minutes and commendable efforts were observed from both contenders while compiling final figures of 21-10, 14-21 and 16-21.
The spirited Russian shuttler Svetlana aroused the hopes of her supporters by prevailing in very first set of the match but Darina buried those hopes by ruling the court in last two sets.
In opening game, Svetlana Korotisheva took some time to build right momentum but she never looked back after getting on track.
She stayed low until first three rallies but then she swiftly registered seven points which ultimately helped her to finish first half with a decent edge in 11-7 total.
After the interval, she lost focus for short period of time and allowed the opposing shuttler to narrow the gap.
However, her unbeatable craft in seven consecutive rallies enthralled Darina Zhurba who surrendered after reading concluding margin of 10-21.
Next game was filled with lot of sensation as it saw the suppressed shuttler of previous set bouncing back with a thunderous performance.
Darina set the ball rolling with 6-3 total in the beginning and this initial lead helped her to place a respectable figure of 11-7 at mid-game break.
Later half of the set started with Svetlana creating trouble by reaching at 11-12 but then her competitor re-established the upper hand with 16-12 margin.
Both compatriots were poles apart in final moments as Darina served notice of her supremacy by pocketing five points in a row and survived this part of the tussle with a 21-14 score.
Third set turned into the survival of the fittest war as both female shuttlers snapped at each other’s heels to oust their opponent.
In the beginning, Svetlana was far ahead over her rival until 9-5 but then she lost that rhythm which resulted in upsetting figure of 11-10.
Darina picked up some pace after one-minute break and left her challenger far behind with concluding total of 21-16.
Now the victorious shuttler is scheduled to face second seeded player Neslihan Yigit of Turkey in pre quarter-finals of the event.
