Dario Cataldo confirmed to ride in Team Sky colours for 2013-14 seasons
Dario Cataldo has finally decided to end his associations with Team Quick Step by the end of 2012 season and will ride along Team Sky for 2013-14 seasons.
Team Sky General Manager Dave Brailsford is hunting for the fittest men to ensure his team’s strength for the new season and inclusion of the young Italian will further strengthen the team’s stage race talent.
Cataldo started riding professionally with Team Liquigas in 2007 and stayed with the team by the end of 2008 season.
He penned a three-year deal with the Belgian outfit, Team Quick Step in 2009 and will now be seen in team Sky for the coming two seasons.
Dario’s top performances with Team Quick Step include a first place finish at the G.P. Beghelli 2010.
He finished first at the National Time Trial Championships this year along with stage victories at the Tour de I’Ain and the Vuelta a Espana 2012.
The 27-year-old was delighted to secure the deal and briefed that signing up with Team Sky will definitely take his career to the next level.
He cited, “I was really excited when the opportunity arose for me to come to Team Sky because it is such a big team, and a big organisation”.
“This last season has been my best and I’ve been able to achieve all my goals”.
“I put in a good ride at the Giro, I was able to win the Italian time trial championship, a stage at the Vuelta, and then competed at the World Championships”.
“I want to build on those performances now and set new goals with Team Sky. I can time trial, climb well and also win out of small groups”.
Team Sky is enjoying a marvellous season and is currently leading the UCI World Tour teams rankings with as many as 1636 points to its credit.
Team Liquigas-Cannondale is at the second position with 1178 points while Team Katusha (1173), Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step (1066) and Team Movistar occupies the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Other transfer news relating Team Sky includes trading of Mark Cavendish for Andrew Fenn along with a financial statement with Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step as reported by Gazet.
