Dark Emerald to shine in the Wymeswold Conditions Stakes
Six lightly raced contestants have gathered for the Class 3 Wymeswold Conditions Stakes at Leicester over seven furlongs and nine yards on Tuesday, 16th October. Besides Dark Emerald, all the other entries have their race course debut through the outing today. The prize money of the race is set at £5,822.
The only entry who has raced and won at Leicester before is the two-year-old grey colt, Dark Emerald. He has been active five times in the debut season and the only time the Brendan Powell trained won was at the race course where he is to race today.
Dark Angel's son also has experience at graded level, but then it does not count much because of the twelfth position that he got out of the twenty-two contestants of the Group 2 Coventry Stakes on 19th June, 2012 at the Ascot race course over six furlongs.
The race was won by, Dawn Approach.
Right after the devastating disaster in the Coventry Stakes, the Irish grey colt claimed the prize money of the Nelson Restaurant Maiden Auction Stakes (Division II) on 4th September, 2012 at Leicester over seven furlongs.
The favourite entry was paired up with jockey, Jamie Spencer. Breaking from the third stall, the two chased the leaders, and switched from the right end while the final two furlongs waited.
Trying to dominate the last furlong, he yet again switched sides, and could defeat Magical Rose only by a short head’s difference.
The next race was at Newbury, and it saw the lack of conviction in the way Dark Emerald conducted through the track distance. That was with jockey, Kieren Fallon, and today too, the pair remains consistent.
The 9 to 1 entry for the race has drawn the first stall to race from. The 75% strike rate of the jockey when racing at Leicester with the Brendan Powell team, is impressive.
He will need to look out for the evening’s favourite, Seek Again, trained by, John Gosden. The two-year-old American chestnut colt cleared the maiden at the first asking.
Coupled with jockey, William Buick, he defeated Regal Silk, by 2 ¼ lengths in the Nunnery Stud EBF Maiden Stakes on 28th September, 2012 at Newmarket over seven furlongs.
