Question:

Dark Knight hints that riddler and catwoman are the villains in the next sequel?

I heard this rumor that actually makes sense. Can anyone validate this? Possibly with a web article?

(Minor Spoilers)

Here are the two supposed hints:

In the dark knight there is a character "Reese" also known as Coleman Reese is referred to as Mr. Reese. (say that two times as fast) Mr.Reese. Mysteries. Given the context of the story people have been saying that his character becomes the riddler. ( a slight creative twist to his original name "Mr. E" or Edward Nygma.

The second is when Bruce gets a new suit and asks lucious fox something like:

"Will this Suit protect me from dog bites?"

and lucius replies

"Well, it should withstand against cats."

opinions? info? etc.

  1. I thought the line about cats was a bit odd, but did not make the catwoman connection. I didn't pick up on the Mr. Reese connection at all. Very interesting.

However, it would be an odd choice to have Joshua Harto, who played Reese in the Dark Knight, play The Riddler in a future Batman. Although it would have been a dead giveaway if they had a big name in the part (Johnny Depp, for example) it would also be awkward to have the part recast (see all the hoopla about recasting Rachel Dawes).

As for Catwoman, I can't imagine they would go that direction. We're still only 4 years removed from one of the worst movies of all time, Halle Berry's Catwoman, and I think they would want to stay as far away from any connection as possible.

  2. I've read about these theories elsewhere, but truthfully, I don't believe they'll bring in Catwoman. The line might as well be a throwaway one.

I don't know about the Riddler, though. The character is dark enough, but he bares similarities to the Joker.

  3. i didn't pick up on that dialog to mean anything like that..remember the dogs were rottweilers and he knew they were going to be there.

also in batman returns, there was no guesswork as to the next villain..the joker's card was put in batman's hand. i did read that the riddler or catwoman were early favorites..so i would not be suprised..
