From Software, the game’s developer, has conceded it is facing a number of issues porting the console version onto the PC as well as adding in the bonus content that had been promised earlier.
Demon’s Souls was a revolution in terms of gaming. It took sadism and made it acceptable and enjoyable to the masses in the sense that the game would torture all those who played but ensure that every death and tense moment would reap its reward.
Gamers basically die numerous times throughout the game and it was a part of the gameplay mechanic: a death would allow you to learn what was ahead and one would come prepared the next time around.
Demon’s Souls however, was a PlayStation 3 exclusive but its spiritual successor, Dark Souls, was a multiplatform title, releasing on both the PlayStation 3 as well as the Xbox 360. The game was supposed to release on PCs as well, however a number of issues in porting the game have arisen and resulted in delay after delay.
The developers of the game conceded, "To be completely honest, we're having a tough time doing it due to our lack of experience and knowledge in terms of porting to PC. First we thought it would be a breeze, but it's turned out not to be the case. We're still developing right now - we're crunching right now."
That news does not bode well with PC gamers hoping to get their hands on what is perhaps the toughest game to be released in recent years. However, the studio did have a valid defence, "In Japan there's not much of a PC market and we haven't really taken into consideration that audience before. That's one of the reasons why we haven't been able to step up on the PC platform until now."
Dark Souls is set to hit PCs on the 31st of August, however, after the recent bit of news it would not be surprising if the developers announce a delay as they look to optimise the game for PCs.
Until that time it seems that PC gamers will have to wait and watch, with envy, as console gamers torture themselves with Dark Souls.
