We have a lot of spiders that come into the apartment. They are dark gray, almost black with a white, maybe light gray spot on their back. What are they? And I thought spiders laid eggs...when i picked up one of them today to throw outside, it had a bunch of little tiny baby spiders underneath it.

  1. Learn to ID them, here -

  2. From your description, it is very hard to pin down. A common spider in the Western U.S. that could look rather like the spider you describe is Steadota hespera, they are also known as "false black widows" because a lot of people confuse them with widow spiders (Latrodectus). They prey on other spiders (specifically hobo spiders) and while their venom is, if I remember correctly, medically significant for humans, they are not known to bite.

Do you, by chance, have a photo?
