Dark lines appearing across my lcd tv

My Sony LCD tv has developed dark lines that run in columns across the centre of the screen. They are more prevalent against a green background and tend to appear after the tv has ben on for a 30 minutes. What could be wrong. Do I need to buy a new tv?
