Darko Milicic will stay in NBA during the lockout – NBA Update
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ centre Darko Milicic is not considering playing overseas despite the ongoing lockout in the National Basketball Association (NBA). This lockout situation has forced many league players to consider overseas
options, but few players like Darko Milicic have decided otherwise.
Milicic’s agent, Marc Cornstein, explained revealed the development on Wednesday,
“We're not exploring it, Because he is under contract, because he has three years left, it’s a totally different scenario than for some other players who are free agents. He’s not looking to do anything with it right now, as time
goes on and if it looks like maybe there won’t be a season, that could change. Maybe a situation will present itself. But that’s something that would happen down the road.”
The Serbian born Darko Milicic has spent almost eight years in the league and would have been very good candidate to play in Europe’s top leagues. However, he is still hopeful for his future ahead with the Wolves and is not taking
any decision in a hurry.
Milicic was once considered the best prospect for the league when he made his way into the NBA in 2003 as the overall 2nd pick in the NBA draft. Before he made way into NBA, Milicic played for a Serbian basketball club
Hemofarm for almost three years.
His impressive performances at Hemofarm meant that the Detroit Pistons drafted him in 2003 with an overall 2nd
pick in the first round. He played for the Pistons for almost three seasons and was traded to the Orlando Magic in 2006. During his time at the Pistons, failed to live upto his potential and disappointed many with his low average performance.
Milicic could not perform up to the expectations as well and was eventually traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2007.
Before coming into the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2010 he played for the New York Knicks in 2009. Milicic’s poor run continued at the Timberwolves and he has never been able to impress. Many basketball experts predicted in the
previous year that Milicic’s NBA was over now and he would not survive in the league. But the Timberwolves’ management reposed faith in him and gave him a four year contract extension.
