Vigil, the game’s developer, has been given additional time to polish their upcoming title as the game’s publisher, THQ, records its best financial quarter for two decades in terms of share prices.
THQ were struggling last year and were forced to send a number of their employees on their ways after cutting around 118 jobs across two of their major studios.
Relic, the developer behind the Company of Heroes, and Vigil, responsible for the development of the upcoming Darksiders 2, were both affected by the job cut, yet the move seems to have paid off as the companies share prices have seen their highest increase
in over twenty years.
The share prices reached 62 cents earlier in the day, which is an increase of 38 percent, since then the company’s stock prices increased by an additional 7 percent making it the highest increase for the company in a very long time.
Sales of UFC Undisputed 3 and Saints Row: The Third have both been identified as the major reason for the publisher’s return to form and has allowed THQ to give Vigil more time to work on Darksiders 2.
THQ announced that the game would be delayed until August on the official Darksiders forum. Mathew Everett, THQ’s community manager, made the announcement himself. The statement read:
“Darksiders II will be moving to release globally in August 2012, rather than June as previously announced. It’s just a short delay but we promise the game you’ll have in August will be worth the wait!”
He went on to explain the reasons behind the delay and said that the developers would be grateful for the additional time to work on the game. “This is great news for the team at Vigil, because it allows additional time for polish and to ensure that all
aspects of Darksiders II meet the high-quality bar the team is targeting.”
He concluded by stating that the “team (Vigil) is dedicated to providing the definite Darksiders experience.”
Extra polish is always welcome when it comes to video games and seeing how successful the original Darksiders taking extra time to make the sequel better than its predecessor seems a smart move.
