Darley July Cup – Hayley Turner to ride Dream Ahead the 7 to 1 favourite for trainer David Simcock
The three-year-old David Simcock trained brown colt, Dream Ahead gains favouritism for the Darley July Cup on 9 July. The Godolphin colt Delegator has been sent off as the hot favourite and Dream Ahead as the second favourite.
The main support and attraction went straight to the jockey, Hayley Turner, who is going to ride the 3-year-old colt Dream Ahead in the Newmarket meet on 9 July.
Hayley Turner, who will be looking to bag a Grade 1 win, will be the second female jockey in 14 years to ride a Group 1 winner in Britain.
The last female jockey to do that was Alex Greaves.
Punters are putting all their faith in Hayley Turner to repeat those exploits come this Saturday, 9 July.
Initially, Dream Ahead was sitting at and backed at 12 to 1 odds, but now the Simcock trained colt is as short as 7 to 1 to win the race.
Hayley Turner will be riding the colt for the first time, before William Buick rode the colt in all of his five starts and guided him to 3 wins out of 5 starts.
Duty calls for William Buick and he is returned to his Boss John Gosden to ride his colt Beachfire at York for the John Smith’s Cup.
David Simcock was stranded after the jockey’s decision to go elsewhere, but Simcock has no issues with Hayley Turner riding Dream Ahead, she is definitely up for the job.
Hayley Turner’s last outing was at Newbury where she rode the filly Fettuccine in the Ridgeway Fillies’ Handicap.
She and her filly finished 10th in the race. Prior to Ridgeway Handicap, Hayley Turner guided the four years old gelding Kings Bayonet for his second win of his career in the Shredding for Bedding Handicap for trainer Alan King on 8 July.
As far as Dream Ahead is concerned, he has had five starts and out of those he has won 3 times, but lately has been off the mark as he finished fifth in his last two races.
Both races were won by the fantastic Frankel, the last race of the 2010 season for Dream Ahead ended in disappointment when he participated in the Group 1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on 16 October, 2010.
Frankel was the tormentor yet again this year at the Royal Ascot when Dream Ahead started in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes, the colt yet again finished fifth with Frankel claiming the Ascot win.
Dream Ahead started his career with three wins on the trot and William Buick was his mount in all the three wins.
It remains to be seen if the new jockey, Hayley Turner, gets the hang of Dream Ahead in the first go or the switch becomes a regretful memory.
