  1. I live 20 minutes away and its a nice town. It is much better than Bishop Auckland and Durham for shopping - many highstreet and independent shops like Binns (House of Fraser) and M&S etc. There is also a small shopping centre - the Cornmill Centre. They have recently spent alot of money on the town centre and it looks much better.

Good transport links - got a good station that links to London and Edinburgh in about 2 hours. You can get into Newcastle in about 30 minutes by train.

Several big parks too, and they have a huge Bonfire Night festival every November.

  2. They've done up the town centre in the last 10 years or so, its mainly pedestrianised. There's a big bell on one of the platforms at the station :D

  3. It scores 36 in Scrabble.

  4. its a place not far from me lol. not much to tell really! why do you wanna know?

It is only 45 minutes from the Metro Centre

13/06/08 - CHILD carers in Darlington have attended a new council-run course to help them comply environmental health regulations.

The training, for registered child carers who work at home, gave information about the legal requirements and standards for home catering, which is part of the service they provide.

All the child carer will also be visited by the Council’s Environmental Health Officers who will help them ensure the necessary standards are met.

The first course was so popular that future sessions are planned.

13/06/08 - RESIDENTS have been dishing the dirt on dog owners who do not clean up after their pets.

The Council’s Dish The Dirt campaign, which was launched in May, encourages people to call a or e-mail details of anyone they see allowing their dogs to foul.

The Council’s uniformed wardens collect the information and use it to help them fine offenders, who they must catch in the act.

In the first month of the campaign, 19 people called the hotline and seven people e-mailed information, which was used to help fine six offenders.

Posters have been put on dog bins around the Borough advertising the hotline number and the uniformed wardens have also been handing out cards promoting the campaign to dog walkers.

Bill Dixon, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services and Community Safety, said: “Our wardens can only fine someone if they see them allowing their dog to foul. “Information from the public is therefore vital to ensure that the wardens can be in the right place and the right time to catch offenders.

“The first month of Dish the Dirt has been successful and I would urge people to continue to give us the information we need to stop irresponsible dog owners. These people not only make areas of our town look unsightly, they are also causing a real health hazard to other residents.”
