Darrell Griffin picked up by Leeds Rhinos - Rugby League update
While talking to reporters on Thursday, October 13, Leeds Rhinos have confirmed their latest uptake of Huddersfield Giants’ Darrell Griffin, who has agreed to a three-year-deal with the club.
This is the second signing for Rhinos in the 2012 season, which has been followed by the Crusaders’ Richard Moore. The move by Griffin had been a closely guarded secret and the prop also acknowledged that Rhinos were his only preference.
While speaking about his move to Headingley Carnegie, Griffin thanked Huddersfield for all the opportunities that were available for him with them and wished them all the very best for their future ahead.
He went on and shared, “When I was told that I could speak to other clubs, I met with a number of Super League clubs but once I became aware of Leeds' interest in me, there was only one club that I wanted to join."
Griffin was born in Oxford and made his way into the Harlequins. After that the prop joined in with the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and made it big there before he moved on to Huddersfield in 2007.
Recalling his successful run which was initiated with Oxford, the player added that growing up in Oxford, he always looked forward to playing with the champions, which remained at the back of his head until now, as an unfullfilled dream of his. However,
with the props link up to the Headingley Carnegie, the player’s dream will be soon realised.
The excitment of this change is alike on either sides of the deal. Leeds' coach, Brian McDermott, is also pleased with Griffin’s uptake and said that with his inclusion, the outfit will have that extra something to it.
Moreover, he admitted that Darrell is a great addition to their squad and said, "He is a player who I admire and has shown at Huddersfield that he is a hard-running prop who never takes a backward step. I think he will thrive in our environment and training
regime and I am looking forward to seeing him play for Leeds."
