Hair feels vindicated by recent Pakistan controversies
Former cricket umpire Darrell Hair from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has continued with his panning of the Pakistani cricketers by calling them "cheats, frauds and liars". Hair did not stop at that and condemned the International
Cricket Council for not taking suitable action against those involved in alleged cheating or spot-fixing, including Shoaib Akhtar, who was accused of ball-tampering last week.
Hair, who is one of the more controversial cricket personalities in the world, umpired in a total of 213 internationals and was often seen courting controversy for various incidents in his career. This included
the no-balling of Muthiah Muralitharan for alleged chucking and awarding a Test match to England after the Pakistanis refused to take field after tea.
Hair said to the British newspaper Observer Sport that he felt vindicated after the Pakistani cricketers were suspended by the ICC for allegations of spot fixing. Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad
Asif were the three who came under the spot-fixing scanner and are currently suspended by the ICC.
Hair has been well-known for his stance against Muralitharan and has often refused to accept that Muralitharan did not throw his deliveries. Where Hair flamed more controversies was when he awarded England
five runs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 after he deemed that the state of the ball had been changed illegally by the Pakistani team in the Oval Test match of 2006. The Pakistani side protested the decision by refusing to come out of the pavilion after the tea session,
immediately after which, Hair awarded the match to the English side. This was the first time ever in 129 years of the sport that a Test match had been forfeited.
“The fans, viewers and crowds have been watching cheats and liars. How long will they continue to part with their money to watch manipulated matches and players cheating? The ICC should be ashamed to allow
these matches to take place,” said Hair.
He also added that the ICC had continued to show its toothless nature after they had failed to take action against the erring Akhtar despite the evidence being handed over to them.
Hair said that the Pakistanis did not show any respect for the game and continued to cheat at every plausible occasion. He called the game played by Pakistanis “a hoax and a fraud to the public.”
