McLeish signed up for Aston Villa despite being in charge of the Villans’ rivals in controversial circumstances. last season.
The 52-year-old Scot resigned from the managerial post at Birmingham City in order to force a move his to the club’s rivals. McLeish was announced as the manager of Aston Villa just five days after his resignation.
McLeish’s switch from Birmingham City to Aston Villa left the supporters from both clubs fuming with anger due to intense rivalry between both sides. The Scots arrival at Aston Villa was greeted by angry Villa fans who registered a protest against their
newly appointed manager and the club owner.
The former Birmingham City manager immediately called in a private meeting with Aston Villa faithful in order to clear the air and assured the fans that he would give his best for the Lions next season.
Bent has claimed that McLeish now has support of Aston Villa fans and players, and believes that the Scottish manager is the right man to lead the Lions in the next season.
The 27-year-old told the reporters, “It shows by how many people are out there to support the players that the fans are behind Alex McLeish 100 per cent.”
The English striker has hailed McLeish’s impact at Aston Villa and has reiterated that the players are behind the Scotsman.
“I think he's been fantastic. We haven't had too many sessions with him but he's brought a freshness to the place, told us what he expects of us and the lads are behind him 100%,” added the 27-year-old striker.
Bent has hailed the courage shown by McLeish to make a move from Aston Villa’s fieriest rivals Birmingham City. The English striker has insisted that the Villans are fully behind McLeish and are desperately waiting to start the next Barclays Premier League
under their new manager.
“It shows his character coming from Birmingham to Villa. The boys are behind him and we just can't wait to get going,” Bent concluded.
