Last season under http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 McLeish, the English Premier League side were struggling and barely managed to avoid the relegation zone. They will expect to come back stronger this season under Lambert, who has replaced McLeish as the manager at Villa Park.
While Bent missed out a place in the national team for the European Championships due to injury, he can expect to play a major role for Aston Villa in the upcoming season. In addition to his services, Bent was confident the youngsters at the club would play
a bigger role in the upcoming season.
Bent said in an interview:
“We have some good youngsters coming through and this year is their chance to shine. With one or two additions Lambert brings in, it could be a really good year for us.”
The 28-year-old admitted the young players did not really get a chance to prove themselves in the Premier League last season. However, he was certain they could go on to play more of a role for the Villains in the upcoming season.
According to Bent, the young players had been brought in by Alex McLeish to play a handful of games unexpectedly, which had not delivered the best results. The striker was hoping that this time around the youngsters would be more prepared to play a role
for Aston Villa and would therefore perform better.
He revealed:
“Last season some of the youngsters had to come in and play five or six games straight off and they had never done that before. But they are a season on now and know what to expect from the Premier League.
This season they will really shine and I really think Villa are going places.”
Bent transferred to Aston Villa in the January transfer window of 2010 on a four and a half year deal from Sunderland. He made 16 appearances in all competitions in his debut season and scored nine goals. Bent’s full season at the club was marred with injury,
because of which he only made 25 appearances and scored just ten goals.
