Darren Bravo, the young West Indian batsman, is hopeful of achieving International Cricket Council’s ‘Emerging Player of the Year’ award as he claims that he has had a busy year in International cricket with good records.
Bravo has been shortlisted by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 for the honour that is to be conferred on September 12, in the council’s annual awards ceremony in London.
The other nominees for the award include Pakistan’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wahab-Riaz-c95839 and the Caribbean spinner, Devendra Bishoo.
Though Bravo admits that the competition is tough as the other three contenders have performed better than him but he is still optimistic.
Talking to the media today, Bravo said, “It is a great feeling to be nominated. I was a bit surprised. It has been my first full year in international cricket and I am being listed in that sort of category, so it is special to me. I am thanking the lord
for this and hopefully I get the award.”
He further told, “I think it will be very tough because all the others have performed pretty well. It is about their hard work as well and congratulation to them as well for being nominated.”
Among all the four candidates, Bishoo has been outstanding as he has grabbed 21 Test and 19 ODI wickets over the year. The youngster performed excellently in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
On the other hand, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 duo has been impressive in the domestic cricket. Riaz did well in Pakistan’s high-voltage World Cup semi-final against India.
Bravo, since making his Test debut in 2009 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, has played 8 Test, 28 ODI and 3 T20I games, scoring 518, 736 and 83 runs in the three formats respectively.
The batsman had good time in his team’s home series against Pakistan two months back. He also delivered some stunning performances in the recently-concluded Emerging Players Tournament (EPT) 2011 which India won.
The 22-year-old left-handed batsman is a rapidly emerging cricket star of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 and is likely to fill the gap of his seniors promisingly in the future.
