Darren Clark hopes to start 2011 on a good note
The Northern Irishman Darren Clarke hopes to get on the right start as he tees off at Africa Open this weekend. Being winless since two years now, Darren is desperate for his career to get back on track in 2011.The first event of the year for Clarke, The
Africa Open has gotten all the players competing for the 158,800 euro top prize.
Also competing in this event will be talented South African players, Charl Schwartzel who is the defending champion, Louis Oosthuizen and Retief Goosen. With a high profile field assembled, winning this tournament would not be an easy task. Despite the difficulties
and the competitors, Darren is up for the challenge and really hopes the Africa Open will be a good start for him.
The last time Darren won was at the KLM Open in 2008. Even though he really worked hard to win in the past two seasons, luck just wasn’t on his side.
Clarke played really well in 2009 when he was near victory but the win was taken by Goosen. Clark pushed Goosen all the way over the closing holes but managed to finish second place. He mentioned that that tournament gave a good start to his 2009 season
and he likes initiating his golfing season with the Africa Open.
"In 2009 I had a pretty good result and last year's Africa Open sparked a return to form for me, so I'm really looking forward to playing in East London,” said Darren."I'm hitting the ball as well as ever but just not scoring as well as I should be. My consistency
is getting better and I've got to keep working on that."
In 2009, it was the South Africa’s number one golfer, Ernie Els, who won the event. Ernie has had an amazing year in 2010 and is hoping to carry his success into next year as well. Being inducted into the world golf hall of fame last year, Els will try his
level best to win the Open again.
As for the 2010 Open championship winner, Oosthuizen has never played in the Africa Open before. Having the confidence of a major championship winner, Louis is eager to tee off at the East London Golf Club this weekend.
With Schwartzel determined to defend his title and Clarke looking to end his winless drought, the Open this weekend will be an exciting one to follow.
