Darren Clarke desires to end his rankings slump at the Ballantine's Championship
Darren Clarke is returning to golf, eager to win the Ballantine's Championship in the coming week, aiming high to end the slump, from April 26 to 29, 2012.
The 43-year-old Northern Irish professional is heading to the upcoming European Tour staged event at the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon in Seoul, South Korea.
He is currently ranked on the 69th position and is facing a regressing trend in the world rankings. He is planning to end this slump and to improve his rankings, after proving his skills in South Korea.
Six years back, he lost all his hopes after losing his wife, due to cancer. Now, he is happy again and just remarried two weeks ago, in Bahamas.
His life is becoming normal again and he now desires to improve his ranking by being impressive at the Blackstone Golf Club.
“It's been good to have another little break again and obviously get married again,” Clarke said. “I feel very lucky, but it is back to work again now and try to get back into my golf again”.
“I've had a couple of weeks on the beach. I practised a little bit when I was there, so I'll be a little bit rusty this week, but hopefully I'll get back into it”.
“It's certainly a privilege for me to bring it with me most places where I go,” he added.
The last tournament he played and won was The Open Championship, on July 17, 2011. Since then, he has not performed in any professional events so far.
Hence, Clarke will tee off the Ballantine's Championship on Thursday, after almost a year. He scored 5-under 275 there and won the title by three strokes, gaining a lead over Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson.
His scoring was tremendous at Royal Lytham St. Anne, Lytham St Annes in Lancashire, England. He also impressed all his spectators by hitting several birdies and an eagle in the four-day major tournament.
It is possible that he will face some challenges in the upcoming tournament, due to the long lay-off time period. However, since turning professional in 1990, he has won 22 professional events in total.
Out of which, 14 are at the European Tour, three at PGA, one at major championships and the rest are with other tour organisers. Hence, he has enough knowledge of golf and would be leading the Ballantine's Championship leaderboard.
