Darren Clarke desires to win the Volvo World Match Play Championship
Darren Clarke is hopeful to end his victory drought at the Volvo World Match Play Championship, although he has not played the first round.
The British Open Champion is in the Pool Gabrielsson. Robert Rock and Justin Rose are the opponents. Clarke performance really matters. He has to deliver his best to defeat both the professionals.
"My pride has been hurt. That's enough motivation," Clarke said. "I don't need anything else. I've been so frustrated with the whole thing because I've been trying so hard. Too hard probably - not to justify the Open win, but to back it up”.
He added: "It's not as if I'm being lazy. Whenever I'm in Portrush I'm beating balls in all weathers. I don't want to play the way I've been playing and I'll just keep going, keep going, keep going - it will turn round at some stage. My schedule has been
chaotic and that's why I didn't go to the Players Championship last week”.
He was practising for the European Tour event and left the PGA Tours’ Players Championship. He is back in form now and is gearing up to play in Spain, in the second round.
In the first round, Rose defeated Rock. Rose displayed an amazing performance and shot eight tremendous birdies in total.
He made an early start on the Spanish soil, carded three consecutive birdie. He grabbed the lead from the first hole over Rock.
Most impressively, Rose was bogey-free throughout the day and played well in the first round. On the other hand, Rock only shot one birdie and lost the round by seven strokes.
Clarke has not started yet. He will face both the rivals from the second round. He needs to show some enormous scoring trend, so that he can lead over both the players.
The 43-year-old Northern Irish is also hoping to be selected for the Ryder Cups’ European Team. The event is going to be staged in September. Experts said that finding a sopt in the field will be an uphill task.
If Clarke wins in the second round, then he can impress the Ryder Cup officials. He will face Rock first and then Rose. A competitive battle is expected between Clarke and Rose on Friday, May 18, 2012.
