Darren Clarke looking to be the captain in the 2014 Ryder Cup
There is still a month left in the 2012 Ryder Cup to start and the debate on the Ryder Cup of 2012 has already started. The event after two years is going to take place at the Gleneagles Hotel.
The current hot topic in the world of golf is, who is going to be the next captain of the Ryder Cup Team?
One of the players who is looking to be the captain of the Ryder Cup in 2014 is Northern Irish professional golfer, Darren Clarke. Without a doubt, the Irishman is a top contender for the job and has a good chance of actually becoming the captain.
Clarke is pretty serious about the event which is going to take place at Gleneagles. He has already struck the first blow to become the captain. Clarke has started off his campaign by deciding to appear in the Jonnie Walker Championship.
The venue for this event is also the Gleneagles. Recently, the player has been criticized on his game at the course.
This is a perfect chance for him to answer his critics once and for all. Clarke will be appearing in the Johnnie Walker Championship for the first time after 2008.
The designer of this course, Jack Nicklaus, has recently made many changes to it. Clarke’s previous best at the course has not even broken 70 once. This time he will be looking to change that.
In an interview he said, “I wasn’t initially playing Gleneagles but they’ve made changes to it. I’m playing the Johnnie Walker, then Switzerland and Holland. I believe the Gleneagles changes are good so that’s why I am going”.
Clarke’s chances to become the captain increased because it seems like he is going to be one of the vice captains in the Jose Maria Olazabal side in this year’s Ryder Cup.
“Jose Maria has said nothing to me at all. Of course if I was asked I would love to go to Medinah. I would do anything that I could to help Europe retain the Ryder Cup,” he added.
Paul McGinley and Scotland's Colin Montgomerie also have a chance in becoming the captain in the next Ryder Cup.
