Darren Clarke marries former Miss Northern Ireland Alison Campbell in a secret wedding in Bahamas
Darren Clarke has now pulled the curtain of his secret wedding ceremony that took place in an island in Bahamas on April 11, and the news flashed on the media on Wednesday, April 13, when Clarke replied to all his Tweeter fans.
Clarke married his long-time girlfriend former Miss Northern Ireland Alison Campbell and the wedding was attended by some very close friends, including the 2010 US Open winner Graeme McDowell.
In fact, it was McDowell who first introduced Clarke to Alison. Clarke said via his Twitter account, “Thanks for all your congrats tweets!..we had a fantastic day...I’m very lucky to have found Alison!”
Clarke and Alison have been together since 2006, the same year when Clarke’s first wife Heather died succumbing to a deadly breast cancer.
Clarke has two sons from his former wife, Tyrone and Conor, and the family now lives in Portrush since the death of Heather.
Alison has been especially considerate for Clarke’s loss in all this time.
Clarke’s long-time friend Trevor Kane, owner of the Bayview Hotel in Portballintrae, also admitted that he had a feeling that something was on the cards.
According to him, considering Clarke’s secretive nature, it was more than apparent that both of them have decided to finally get married.
He said, "I was speaking to Darren’s mother who was flying out last Friday to join up with the rest of the family (at the Masters) so we reckoned it was definitely on the cards".
"We were very suspicious and every time we mentioned it to him you could see the twinkle in his eye. He is a bit of a devil whenever it comes to keeping people going".
Clarke surged to stardom with his surprise victory at the Open Championship at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich last year, a feat he was finally able to achieve after 20 years of relentless struggle.
Clarke has won 22 professional events in his professional career, which spans to more than two decades.
He was also part of the field at the 76th Masters at the Augusta National last week, where he failed to make the halfway cut on the difficult layout.
Clarke was also recently appointed as the Officer of the British Empire (OBE) for his services for the sport.
