Darren Clarke: the defending Champion misses the cut
Two days of the British Championship Open 2012 are over and with a doubt this Open has been very eventful. The venue for the 141st British Open is the Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Course. The event started from the 19th of July and
being a four day event, it will end on the 22nd of July.
The best in the world of golf have gathered at Lytham to fight for the Claret Jug. The list of players also included Darren Clarke. He is the former British Open Champion.
He was able to bag the Claret Jug last year with a magnificent five-under par at the Royal St George's Golf Club.
This year Clarke was looking to defend his title at Lytham. Unfortunately for him, he was not able to survive the mid way cut. Clarke could not produce any sort of magic that he showed last year. He gave a very mediocre performance in the two days of the
tournament.
On the first day of the Open, Clarke carded three bogeys just on the front nine. He started off the back nine with a birdie on the tenth hole.
Unfortunately for him, the birdie was followed by another bogey on the eleventh. Later on, he carded three consecutive bogeys, which made his score six-over par for the day.
The second round was a bit better. He was able to card two birdies on the fifth and ninth hole and a bogey on the eighth. After the front nine his score was five-over par.
On the back nine, he again scored two more bogeys, which made his score one-over par for the day and his total score climbed up to seven-over par.
This was a very disappointing performance by the Northern Irish professional golfer.
After the second day, Clarke had to leave because he ended up missing the cut. He had this to say on his early exit, “I tried to put up a good defence but I couldn’t do it. I wasn’t that bad from tee to green but I had a cold putter. I just couldn’t hole
any putts”.
“I am disappointed to be going home early, of course. It’s been a great year and I will never forget it. The fans here were great to me as always and I would like to thank them,” he added.
