Darren Ferguson on the hunt for fresh faces
Preston North End manager Darren Ferguson has revealed that he is actively looking for new players to bring to the club.
Preston has really struggled so far this season and currently sits rock bottom of the Championship. With relegation to League One a strong possibility, Ferguson admits some fresh faces around the club
could raise spirits.
"We feel if we freshen things up a bit that will help.
That is not having a go at anybody [currently in the squad].
We tried to get three players in last week and never managed to get anybody," Ferguson said in
The People.
Clubs facing relegation are often forced into looking for drastic ways out and in this case it means bringing in new players. Ferguson is placing emphasis on the external
positives new players would have but there can be no doubt that better standard of players are needed in the club.
It is positive that Ferguson has started looking around for players before the January transfer window has opened. This will allow the club to find and approach targets,
which will provide more time to solve any problems.
"One suddenly was not available and one was extremely expensive.
I am the one who will get criticised and rightly so. I will have to take it and get on with it," he added.
Acting now will put the club one step ahead from other clubs who will may be looking at the same players. It's clear Ferguson wants to be well prepared for the January
rush in the transfer market.
One avenue that Ferguson could naturally explore is to approach his father at Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson. Possible loan deals can be talked about and set up although
much bigger clubs than Preston always covet Manchester United's young stars.
Betting advice
It's not looking good for Preston and unless Ferguson can bring in the right players, the club is going to stay a favourite for relegation to League One. Wait until after
January to see the state of the squad and the team's league position. However, a punt on the side going down will do no harm.
