Darren Fletcher demands improved away form
Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher says the club's current away form is not acceptable for a side chasing the title.
United is the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League, but the team has won only one out of seven matches away from home so far. This has meant a combined total of 12 dropped points.
This is the form that has seen the club concede ground at the top of the table. Fletcher suggests it may ultimately be the difference by the end of the season if the club keeps leaking points when playing
away.
"It's not good enough.
We need to start winning away, because if you don't it will end up costing you the league.
You can't wait for a kick up the backside, like going two goals down, to get us playing. You can't afford to keep doing that," Fletcher said on the
Sky Sports website.
On a more positive note, Fletcher says it was encouraging to see the side come back so strongly during the 2-2 draw against Aston Villa on the weekend. United went 2-0
down with just under ten minutes remaining and salvaged a point from the jaws of defeat.
"Of course, you get a response when you lose goals like that, that's
natural and to come back into the game shows great character. The only consolation is the way we came back. You have to look for positives and we never lost the match," added Fletcher.
Fletcher rightly points out that the side cannot keep going through games leaking goals and having to come back. Sooner or later, a side with a solid defence will shut
up shop and efficiently defend a lead, which will break United's unbeaten record this season.

Most will agree that Manchester United is not playing well at the moment and hasn't done so for a few weeks. But the club is still in third place in the Premier League,
and remains a very good bet to win the title due to the experience that lies in both the manager and squad.
