Darren Fletcher gunning for success in the UEFA Champions League with Manchester United

After failing to make an appearance in either of Manchester United’s three European Cup final appearances over the past four years, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Fletcher-c10361 has been left wounded by the fact that he has not yet played in the Champions League
final even though his club side have been to the pen-ultimate match of the competition around about three times in the last four years. Manchester United’s rise to prominence in European football has coincided with a change in mentality at Old Trafford under
Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson as the Red Devils have started to value ball possession greatly in the European theatre of football.
Fletcher was at the centre of Manchester United’s run to the UEFA Champions League final in 2009 but unfortunately for the Scotsman, he got sent off in the second leg of United’s semi-final clash against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 at the Emirates
stadium. The Red Devils sorely missed their defensive midfielder against a rampant Barcelona side in 2009 when the final was played in Rome as the Catalan giants won easily in the end by two goals to nil. In the 2010-2011 season, Fletcher wasn’t fit enough
to make it to the UEFA Champions League final at the Wembley stadium for Manchester United as they ended up as the second best team in Europe once again behind Pep Guardiola’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.
As Manchester United gear up to resume their UEFA Champions’ League group stage commitments by hosting F.C Basel at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, it will be a stat of another European adventure for England’s most successful club.
Fletcher reflected on his personal experiences in the UEFA Champions League over the past few years in his latest interview as he said, “I’ve just had a bit of bad luck when it comes to Champions League finals. We’ve made it to three and I’ve not played in
any of them. It’s a massive goal to not only play, but to win a Champions League final.”
He added, “I think the English teams have become a lot more dominant. That’s been fairly noticeable in the last few years. We’ve (United) built up experience playing in Europe, especially the team we have now. A lot of us have
been playing together for four or five years. We’ve found a way and a style of playing.”
The Scottish international midfielder concluded by saying that Manchester United now know how important it is to keep hold of the ball in European football as it is quite different to the English Premier League. He went onto elaborate
by stating that giving the ball away in European football can be quite damaging as the foreign teams retain possession for long periods.
