Only five points separate the top five teams in one of the closest title races in recent memory. Tensions run high in the current season of the Barclays Premier League, where the smallest slip-up could spell disaster.
Manchester City and Manchester United are joint leaders at the moment and Brian Kidd has recently tried to psych out the Red Devils after he claimed that the title was United’s to lose.
The former Manchester United man has tried to take the pressure off the Citizens after he stated that Sir Alex Ferguson’ side are favourites to clinch the title this season. Kidd said, “It's obviously Manchester United's to lose now. It is in their hands.
You can't get away from that fact. They have been round the block and know how to win league titles.”
This is not the first time Manchester City have tried to play down their title ambitions. Early in the season, Roberto http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 would breeze through all contenders to retain the Barclays Premier League crown. The wily manager realised that
pressure would affect his side’s performance, so he immediately wrote off City’s title bid. It is worth noting that City went on to defeat Chelsea after his comments.
However, Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher is having none of it. The midfielder has brushed Kidd’s comments aside, saying, “It is just a bit of kidology. We are in a good position. We are top of the league with games in hand. But it is easy counting the
points. You have to win your matches and your games in hand.”
The Scottish international heaped the pressure back onto Manchester City, saying that the Citizens had a real opportunity to win their first league title in more than half a century. Fletcher added, “Manchester City are realistic title challengers. They
are there. They are top of the league with us just now. They are winning games and look solid defensively. When you have that much money to spend and sign that many quality players, they are going to be a threat.”
