Darren Ford shines as San Francisco Giants defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 – MLB Update
Rookie Darren Ford put in a good performance as San Francisco Giants defeated Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 at PNC Park, Pittsburgh on Tuesday, April 26.
The Giants are doing a good job at protecting their World Series Championship and have been successfully proving to everybody why they are the reigning Champions. The Giants are recovering from their terrible four game losing streak which is their worse
since the season started and they’re getting back on track.
The winning run was brilliantly scored by rookie Ford in the tenth inning on a fielder’s choice. He came after Nate Schierholtz hit a double and was put out on third base while Ford attempted a sacrifice fly. Ford moved from first base to third base on Joel
Hanrahan’s throw.
After scoring on Freddy Sanchez’s ball he was on second base and then took off from their as Neil Walker was throwing. He later forced an errant throw by Lyle Overbay, the first baseman.
Earlier in the eighth inning he had come out as a pinch runner, as he moved swiftly from first base to the third base as Sanchez singled. After two batters Ford scored, effectively tying the score at 2-all.
The Giants scored their first run on a sacrifice fly which Aubrey Huff drove in while Aaron Rowand as pitching in the sixth inning.
The Pirates were leading in the sixth inning with two runs against the Giants’ single run, as Matt Diaz successfully walked, stole second base on Overbay’s single. Pablo Sandoval singled and Pat Burrell had his walk in the seventh inning.
The brief summary of the game is that Jones was the first one to hit a home run for the Pirates in the second inning. The Giants replied as Huff hit a decent sacrifice fly and Rowand scored. Next the Pirates Overbay singled and Diaz scored in the sixth inning
for Pittsburgh. The Giants scored their next two runs as Posey hit a tremendous sacrifice fly and Ford managed to score off it in the eighth inning. Later in the tenth inning Sanchez grounded to the second base and Ford once again scored.
It will be interesting to see how the Giants carry their winning momentum into their next game. The Pirates put in a good performance but it was not enough to overcome the Giants’ offence.
