http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Gough-c52450 still backs Andrew Strauss to lead England – Cricket News Update
The former England fast bowler, Darren Gough has come out in support of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 captain and he feels that the left hander should not be sacked at any cost, as he has brought good results for the country in the last couple of years.
England is currently the number one ranked Test team of the world but they have had a miserable time in international cricket since the last three months. Andrew Strauss and company were whitewashed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in a three-match Test series in the United
Arab Emirates (UAE) and then lost the first Test of the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 as well.
On top of that, the form of the captain has also dwindled and he has not scored many runs lately. There are growing calls by cricket analysts in England that it is time that England decides to move forward by appointing a young captain and Strauss’ opening
partner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 seems to be the obvious choice.
However, Gough still backs Strauss to deliver the goods for the team. The former fast bowler believes that Strauss has achieved so much for England in recent times that he cannot be sacked at any cost. Gough backs the left-hander to lead the English team
in the upcoming Test series against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
"It will be Strauss' decision if he walks away and not anybody else's. He won't, and should not, really ever lose his position as captain. He has enough points in the bag to remain in charge this summer in the Test series against West Indies and South Africa,"
said Gough.
Gough expressed that Strauss is a mature person and if he realises that he has had enough of international cricket, he will make the right decision.
The former fast bowler also added, “If his low scores continue and team continues to under-perform, then Strauss will be brave enough to make his own mind up and step aside to let Cook take over. But he should not pay the price as he is still the best man
to take England forward."
